Bulgaria's Apartment Prices Jump In First Quarter Of 2007

The price of apartments in Bulgaria rose by an average of 9.3% during the first quarter of 2007 according to figures just released by the National Statistical Institute.

The most expensive apartments per square metre are currently found in in Varna, the largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast and the third largest in the country after Sofia and Plovdiv. Prices in Varna rose to 1,646 Bulgaria Leva per sq m (about £570 per sq m) in the first quarter of 2007 - a 16% jump from the last quarter of 2006.

In contrast, apartments in Burgas, the Black Coast's second city, rose by just 1.2% in the first quarter of 2007 to 1, 312.3 Bulgaria Leva per sqm (about £455 per sq m).

Prices in the capital Sofia climbed 14.3% in the first quarter to 1,588.0 Bulgaria Leva per sq m (about £550 per sq m).
